Ceres Police Explorer Post 451 is aco-educational program that has been overseen by an affiliate of the Boy Scoutsof America, Learning for Life, since 1998.

The goal of the Police Explorer Program is to teach young adults, ages 14-20, the values needed to succeed in a law enforcement career and in life.  In the program, Cadets learn:

·        Self-Discipline

·        Self-Confidence

 ·        Self-Respect

 ·        Teamwork

 ·        The desire to help others

During their time as Explorers, the Cadets are introduced to what it is to be a Police Officer, how to take reports, how to make traffic stops, how to complete paperwork and other hands-on training.

They also volunteer their time for many organizations including the Ceres Street Faire,Gallo events and the Smoke on the River event. Many of these events have donated money to the Explorer Post, funding which provides them with new equipment and pays their yearly fees.

The Explorers also volunteer to assist in other events, such as Gang Awareness events at Central Valley High School, Christmas Tree Lane, gift wrapping for Beards for Kids, and DUI Checkpoints.

The Ceres Police Department currently has five Explorer Advisors, Officers Freddie Ortiz, Miguel Villalobos, Eric Gallegos, Kiashira Ruiz and Jon Vera, who oversee the entire Explorer Program from backgrounds to community involvement.
