Weed Abatement
GUIDELINES
The following abatement guidelines apply to all property within the City of Ceres:
- ALL PROPERTIES: All weeds, rubbish, excess dirt, trash, dry vegetation, discarded furniture, appliances, garbage, auto parts or other material which constitutes a public nuisance, must be abated from the property, fence line to fence line.
- ALL PROPERTIES: Disc or mow all vegetation to a maximum of 4 to 6 inches in height. Remove all grass, weeds or debris from the property.
- ALLEYS: Mow all grass and/or weeds to a maximum of 4 to 6 inches in height. Fence lines must be clean and free of all weeds. Any and all combustibles must be removed. This includes, but is not limited to, trash, rubbish, dry grass, prunings, clippings, auto parts, furniture, etc.
- PARKWAYS: A parkway is that portion of any public street right-of-way between the right-of-way boundary line and the curb line; and, to the area enclosed within the curb lines of a median divider. It shall be the responsibility of the property owner to water, trim, and otherwise maintain all vegetation within the abutting parkway as necessary to preserve the appearance and unobstructed usability of the parkway. Mow all grass and/or weeds to a maximum of 4 to 6 inches in height. Fence lines must be clean and free of all weeds. Any and all combustibles must be removed. This includes, but is not limited to, trash, rubbish, dry grass, prunings, clippings, auto parts, furniture, etc.
- TREES AND SHRUBS: All dead trees, shrubs and bushes must be cut down and removed from the property. Pruning must also be removed from the property.
There are several avenues available to submit complaints of potential code violations. Complaints can be submitted online through the city’s website (link is above) or the Government Outreach application (GO Request) for mobile devices.
The complaints will be entered into Government Outreach as a request for service. The more information that is received from the reporting party will assist in filling out the request properly and with the investigation.
